Southcentral Power Project - Anchorage, Alaska


Blaine Construction Corporation is constructing all steel power plant buildings on the site of Chugach Electric Association and Municipal Light & Power's (ML&P) new Southcentral Power Project located in Anchorage, Alaska. The project is a combined cycle 183-megawatt power plant, and is Blaine’s second project in Anchorage.

Blaine has total responsibility for the design, engineering, fabrication, and erection of the Generation and a Gas Compression Buildings.

The two Buildings contain 1,245 tons of primary, secondary, and cladding steel. Eave heights range from 21 to 74 feet above finished floor. Additional work included in Blaine’s Scope includes Storefront Windows and Doors, Hollow Metal Personnel Doors, Overhead Roll Up Doors, Rainwater Drain System, Louvers, Translucent Panels, and Crane Runway System for a 50 ton crane.

Chugach is the largest electric utility in Alaska, providing electric service to more than 30,000 customers in a 20-square-mile area of the Municipality of Anchorage.  The utility also provides power for resale to other utilities outside its service area. 

Blaine Construction began building erection in July of 2011 and will complete the power plant buildings in January 2012.

Blaine Construction works throughout the United States and exports steel buildings and components worldwide.
