Ardaugh Group Can Manufacturing Plant

Roanoke, VA

This 543,380 SF facility is a Design-Build project led by Blaine in which an existing distribution facility was transformed into a steel can manufacturing facility that will produce 2 billion cans per year.

Part of the building retrofit required that approximately 120,000 SF of slab be removed and replaced with a thicker reinforced slab that could support the requirements of the new manufacturing process. Along with Process related foundations and pits, a new 65,000 SF mezzanine was constructed within the building to support can conveyors, scrap conveyors, gas piping, compressed air, and 12 MW of power distributed to the manufacturing lines.  High end floor coatings, painting of steel, and color-coding of all piping will serve to reflect the high quality image of this food-grade facility.

In addition to the up fit of the existing building, the project included various site development improvements such as an oxidizer pad, chemical unloading and containment area, steel coil unloading pier, upgraded high voltage electrical service, upgraded water, natural gas and sewer services, and a new parking lot and sidewalks.

Melaleuca

Knoxville, TN

This project is a 230,000 SF manufacturing warehouse with an attached 20,000 SF office building and retail sales store. The warehouse building is constructed from tilt-up concrete panels with an eave height of forty five feet (each panel weighing over 100,000 lbs.). The office building façade is structural studs with brick and stone masonry. Two massive clock towers flank the employee’s entrance and sales store entrance. The building also includes a large viewing mezzanine which separates the warehouse and the sales office which allows customers to view their products being manufactured and packaged.

The project also includes new parking lots for the retail store, loading dock paving and truck access drives. The new facility also, adjoins their existing facility with a 365 foot long above ground conveyor tunnel. The Melaleuca project was constructed during ongoing operations of their existing facility without any disruptions or project delays.
